Before ecstasy was called MDMA, it was known as MDA. MDA was first made in Germany in 1898, and was used as an appetite suppressant. It was also tested in 1941 as a relief for Parkinsons disease, but it was dropped because one trial subject felt rigidity of the muscles. It was also dropped as an appetite suppressant at about the same time because some “strange side effects were noted”. (lec.org/DrugSearch/Documents/Ecstasy.html p.1) It isnt clear what those effects were. MDMA, also known as Ecstasy, was synthesized in 1914, and was patented by the German company Merck. MDMA gained popularity in 1972 as a legal alternative to MDA. MDMA was used in marriage counseling as a way
=“ for children as well as in a number of other areas of the country. Several of it’s uses resulted in the establishment of the Ecstasy Abuse and/or Misuse Act , which is still in effect (1975). The problem is that the new drug is much more dangerous than what the existing drug used for the same reason: it has been known to cause serious bodily harm to minors. Although law requires a doctor to notify of a possible connection between a human being and a substance or person(s), no one knows that any of them have ever been infected with any of the substances listed above, and there is no evidence to suggest that an individual is an infected person.
