Cases are rarely as bad as they are when the victim of crimes is in the wrong body.Julie Campbell CaseDecember 17 2014 is when Julie and her young daughter were murdered at their home in Sydney John Campbell was a parolee following an 11 year jail sentence in Australia.A month later Julie was found hanging in a bush with a knife with a piece of skin on it and her body found in a bush nearby.John Campbell was a parolee while she was 18 years old.Police believe John and Jade Campbell were murdered in an effort to escape prison.John Campbell was found beaten, robbed, raped and tortured with a penknife.He was sentenced to life in prison but he served only 13 years.At least 12 years of parole were handed out.In March, Queensland’s Supreme Court upheld a ruling that “a court of competent jurisdiction must consider the circumstances of the most serious crime for parole”. The Court upheld the lower court’s view, that the Commonwealth’s parole officers failed to assess the seriousness of the crime”.That, for the most part, is because prisons and community-based organisations do not take into account how serious the crime could have been.John Campbell was killed in a “significant number” of cases, while Jade Campbell was beaten, raped, and shot at repeatedly during her 15 month sentence.John and Jade were killed while not convicted of any serious crime.
