In this case I will report on how to keep your computer safe from viruses, spam, identity theft and other elements that may harm your computer. I will also report on how to protect you from injuring yourself while working on the computer.
Buying and installing a firewall program is a good way to protect your computer. Firewall blocks intruders from breaking into your windows pc across the internet. Installing antivirus software allows you to check and scan your computer for dangerous viruses. Do not open email that you do not recognize unless you asked someone to send it to you. This is known as spam email. More than likely when an unknown someone emails you it is junk mail or unwanted viruses. By updating your software yearly, you can protect your computer and your pocketbook.
Protecting yourself online from identity theft is as important as keeping your computer safe. Millions of people shop online, pay bills, and conduct personal business. Always a secure browser like AOL, Netscape, MSN, ect. If you shop online shop with companies you know. Do not give out personal information to a company or person online. Keep your passwords private and be creative and avoid using birthdays and phone numbers. Use a combination of both letters and numbers. Always keep records of online transactions using a credit or charge card. Your transaction will be protected by the Fair Credit Billing Act. This law gives you the right to dispute charges under certain circumstances and temporarily with hold payments by creditors.
Working on the computer for large amounts of time may cause health problems. Repetitive Strain Injury(RSI), back problems, eye strain, and discomfort may arise from computers. RSI consist of carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis are common injures to the wrist. Muscle pain in the back prolonged by long amounts of time in one position like typing can occur. Dry eyes, tired eyes, and head aches are common from computer monitors. Taking occasional breaks and moderate computer usage can prevent these problems
Computers are part of our everyday lives. Knowing how to protect yourself, your computer, and your body will not make your slow hard drive, drive you into the wall.
