Poverty: A Childs Worst Nightmare
Poverty is a horrific problem that affects everyone especially the youth of today. There are several reasons to why poverty affects the younger generation. First, due to poverty children do not have access to schools which leads them unable to acquire the proper knowledge and skills needed to succeed in life. Also, hunger is a tragic outcome of poverty. Many times children starve to death as a result of no access to food. Soaring crime rates and an increase in violence in many communities are a result of poverty. Many children are forced to be brought up in drug-infested communities and often become victims of their environments. Poverty creates an environment that is damaging to people in every way–hunger, lack of education, and crime.
Due to global poverty many people are unable to receive education. Education is power because helps people make smart decisions in life. When education is not received people become powerless and make unintelligent decisions in life. Many people in third-world countries do not have the means to afford education. Since many people are unable to afford a college education people are limited to a just a high school education. As a result many children do not have the adequate skills needed to qualify for a decent job. They are left to do low-class jobs such as working in fast-food restaurants. Statistics show that people who receive a decent education do far better in life than people who do not. Poverty also causes people to have broken homes and as a result parents are not there to teach their children the vital morals needed in succeeding in everyday life. As a result of no parenting in homes many children grow up not knowing right from wrong. As a result children are persuaded into the negative aspects in society. Due to poverty children become ignorant due to a lack of education which leads up for their untimely failure in life.
Poverty causes many children to become hungry. They have no resources to feed themselves or their families “More than 30 per cent of children in developing countries – about 600 million – live on less than US $1 a day” according to unicef.org. Many people in third-world countries suffer from starvation. Every 3.6 seconds one person dies of starvation. Starvation is when people are deprived and unable to eat food. More than 1 billion children are severely deprived of at least one of the essential goods and services they require to survive, grow and develop. Starvation then causes problem malnutrition. Malnutrition is when people dont have the necessary nutrients to achieve a health lifestyle. As a result of malnutrition children often develop diseases. Furthermore, as a result of poverty children can not afford the medical cost to treat the diseases. These diseases then become detrimental because they often result in the childs untimely death. Children are affected from poverty due to the lack of nutrients in their diet, which the often result in horrific casualties such as death.
Global poverty is detrimental to children because it causes a horrendous problem such as crime. Crimes such as robbery and assault occur due to poverty. In many poor communities people feel the need to steal from one another in order to survive. Statistics show communities who are poor tend to have high crime rates. For example, in 2006, according to philly.com, the murder rate for Philadelphia ,
