Ethics Awareness Inventory Analysis
Ethics in my mind would be the process that people make regarding knowing the right or wrong thing to do. Ethics is something that should be taught early in ones life. Individuals are not born with the desire to be ethical. Developing ethical behaviors and morals starts at home. The family plays a vital role in the process of teaching what is ethical in this society. All families should always instill the basic common sense values such as being honest, having self control and showing respect for others. This paper will analyse the results of my Ethics Awareness Inventory. This analysis will include a statement explaining how my educational experience has impacted my ethical thinking. Finally, this analysis will address how I use ethics in thinking and decision-making as well as my potential for conflict in situations with people who have different interpretations of ethical behavior.
Depending on certain backgrounds, ethics can be seen in many ways. One definition is “relating to what is good or bad having to do with moral duty and obligation” (Webster, 2002). Being raised in a Christian family, ethics played a vital role within my household. I was taught what was right from what was wrong. These same values and morals are still with me to this day. The Ethics Awareness Inventory results states that my ethical perspective is most likely to be based on obligation. This is right on target based on how I was raised. I was taught based on what people “ought to do”. Ethics is also surrounded by having many principles. In todays society, ethical behavior should be held to the highest regard. That is not always the case. This world is sometimes seen as a “dog eat dog world.” People living in todays society are solely focused on themselves and nothing else.
