McdonaldEssay Preview: McdonaldReport this essayCraving some quick food while traveling in Taiwan, but also want to check your email and surf the Internet during lunch? No problem: Taiwan was actually the first country in the McDonalds chain to implement wireless access, and thanks to its partnership with iPass, diners can get online at nearly 350 locations.

And just because youre popping into a McDonalds doesnt mean youll be sidestepping local cuisine. In the same way that McDonalds tailors its offerings in other countries to appeal to different tastes, the restaurants in Taiwan that sport the golden arches also have their own unique creations. A particularly popular choice are rice burgers, developed by Taiwan McDonalds and now available in other Asian markets as well. The sandwiches are made by replacing the American-type sesame seed bun with rice patties, and were created in an effort to make the restaurants food healthier and more in line with an active lifestyle. The new burger also falls in line with other innovations from McDonalds Taiwan, which has created edibles like the Japanese-style pork burger, kimchi burger and grain burger.

As long as youre zipping in for some Wi-Fi and rice burgers, why not do a little country tour as well, by visiting several restaurants along the way? The McDonalds locations range from the capital city Taipei—the countrys center of economics, high-tech business, pop culture and politics—to Chang-hua, a city known for its enormous statue of Buddha, seated high atop Bagua Mountain. Or take in some of the temples, museums and performance spaces of busy Taichung, before cheering on the citys professional baseball team, the Sinon Bulls. No matter where your travels might lead in Taiwan, its likely there is a rice burger and a robust Wi-Fi connection to keep you from getting either hungry or disconnected.

On August 1, 2012, President Obama announced a new “defense readiness plan” that focuses on the “defending Chinese interests at war with Russia, North Korea, Venezuela and Iraq and will make it clear that Chinese forces are on the front lines every day and will fight against any country that threatens our national security at its borders… the United States will not tolerate any form of belligerence from China.”
