April 13, 2006 there was a discussion on the recent possession of uranium in Iran. The United Nations is very concerned with this in which they should be because this very powerful element can be used to make nuclear weapons. However, no evidence of plans to use the element for weapons has been found, but just because it hasnt been found doesnt mean it isnt there. Iran claims that their only intentions in using this uranium is for peaceful purposes, but why havent they tried creating peace in other ways? Why do they need uranium to create peace?
All countries of the U.N. met in New York to discuss the issue, including; China, Russia, the United States, Britain , and France. So far they have decided to give Iran until April 28 to suspend their nuclear program or they will face further action which can lead to punishments. I feel this was a great decision by the U.N. to give Iran time to suspend their program and avoid more conflict with Iran. China would rather have Iran completely terminate their program and have the uranium be taken away. This makes sense too because they dont want to give Iran any time to figure out how to use the uranium in their weapons. However, if we did it this way Iran would just use it against us in the future which would cause many more problems for our country and the other countrys involved. The best way to deal with this situation is to try to make a deal with Iran, in other words, what the United States is intending on doing.
In another article the issue on the rising gas prices throughout the country and an alternative to the gas we are paying for now is discussed. The rise in gas prices over the past year or so has been a core issue in our country. The prices have gone beyond the point of ridiculously expensive, so we have to think of other alternatives such as biodiesel fuel. It can be used as a substitute for gas which is made from cooking oil and ethanol( a chemical found in corn) . This wouldnt be an extreme danger to us either because plenty of people use just vegetable oil as their gas. Its also a lot less expensive than gasoline which gives off an obscene amount of CO-2 into our atmosphere causing heat to be trapped on our surface making us that much closer to the end, so not only is biodiesel less expensive, it is better for our environment. Is gasoline worth all of this trouble? From the knowledge I have received regarding this issue in this article, Im going to say it is absolutely not worth it.
On the other hand, if we start using this biodiesel as our new fuel, Saudi Arabia plans to decrease their prices in oil. They pretty much want to bribe us back into purchasing their fuel. However, we all know that if we were to commit to their lower prices they would ultimately raise their prices again so there is no point in doing that. One downside perhaps to this biofuel could be that some people would have to change their cars in order to use the biodiesel. Toyota and Honda both havent started making biofuel cars, so anyone who owns a Honda or Toyota would have to buy a new car to use the fuel. I feel that is a chance worth taking, buying a new car
