Risk Management
Lost and found in information desk at stamp
At the information Desk provide the lost and found service for students and staff who lose items in stamp or campus. I believe this control is a one that promotes good things. The objective of this control is to help people quickly find the losing items, though it might not prevent people from losing stuffs.
One risk that can be reduce from this control is that people who picked up some items might throw them away or just take them because it is hard to find a place to report and find the owner. The owner, at the same time, might find it is hard or hopeless to find some valuable things. Another risk can be reduced is that, within the information desk, the chance of conflicts between founder and owner, because all the procedures are systemized.
To operate this control, staff at the information desk should post some signs both online and at the desk to inform students that this is a place that can handle lost and found. When receive items, the staff should document it in details. Another thing is that some valid ID should be provided to pick items. Staff is in charge with recording the owners’ ID number and contact information, and comparing their description with the one in the document. In the mean time, the staff should also sign their name. It is also important to set some time periods and methods to clean those losing items to ensure no one take them illegally.
Finally, to test the control, I will first to conduct a survey to test whether students are aware of this lost and found system. Second, I will look through the documents and contact some owner randomly to see whether this record is true. Finally, I will look at the documents about how the remaining items were managed.
