I think that Dust to Dust was a good movie, but not so good that it shouldve won the Audience Choice Award. It was nice how Rodrigo and Rocco put aside their hatred for each other and set out on a road trip to fulfill their deceased grandfathers wish of scattering his ashes in the sea in Acapulo. It was also pleasant that the boys learned a lot about each other throughout the road trip and even became good friends.
On the other hand, I didnt like it when the grandfather advised Rocco to go and “get himself a girl.” He even offered Rocco a condom. I didnt like this because he was encouraging Rocco to have premarital relationships, which could have resulted in a pregnancy or him even attaining a STD. In my culture and religion, premarital relationships are discouraged and considered wrong.
In addition, I didnt like it when Rocco continued seeing Maria even after he found out that she was his aunt. I found this very disturbing because it is immoral to have a relationship with your aunt. And I am pretty sure that this concept is true in every culture and religion.
Towards the end of the movie, Rodrigos dad slapped him, and Rodrigo didnt say anything back, or worse, strike his dad back. It takes great patience and control to hold your temper, and I have to give Rodrigo credit for doing it. From my culture and religion, I am taught to respect and obey my parents no matter what so I strongly believe that Rodrigo did the right thing.
