In his essay, “On Reading a Video Text,” Robert Scholes describes effects of visual, emotional and cultural messages contained in video texts. Scholes argues that viewer doesnt have to be completely aware of the of cultural information they might absorb in a video text. The information is read from the visual narrative. Photographic technique, lighting and music illustrates video texts meaning and communicated message. Visual information, associative influence, and narrative play are all something a commercial uses for perceived need for a product. Scholes also discusses a commercial creation process of identifying a cultural with societys highest ideals. Visual enhancements keep the viewers focused on the story narrative. Finally, Scholes finds importance in media literacy, for American consumers to make conscious and reasoned decisions.”2012:
