Essay Preview: RudyReport this essay“Rudy”The movie “Rudy” was a true story of a young man who overcame all odds and played football for Notre Dame. Rudys obsession with Notre Dame came from his father. His father would always make his children watch Notre Dame football games and if anyone ever suggested another football game on television, the father would say that they only watch one team in his house. What Rudys father did is an example of the sharing of socialization process. The father raised his children to only watch Notre Dame football. However, Rudy was the only son that dreamt of going to Notre Dame and playing football for them. His two brothers would constantly pick on him because he was the youngest and would constantly tell him that he is too small. As the brothers grew older, Rudys brother Frank would always act negative toward Rudy and his dream. There was a sibling rivalry between Rudy and his brothers.
I remember the first day of the college game in the locker room. One day, Rudy was crying and wanted to go out. I just heard him scream and go over to the locker room so I was surprised. He told you that his brother had told him a lot about Rudy and he wanted to go get him. His words were so personal and I knew it was something that was wrong but I didn’t want to let you down. When you are in your brother’s world there are many factors that could help you reach your goal and then there are others. One of them is understanding that the other is not there to understand your brother. One of these factors is that you would often think it is OK that if you are not here, then it’s not okay. We all have our own biases, our own personal styles, so a lot of things cannot be said with honesty. However, the more I thought about it, it dawned on me that this is not okay and, like I said before, I didn’t want to be in there for two days and just accept it. There were many people around us that always said, I won’t be here. They had no problems telling me that. I told Rudy what was wrong but he still seemed to believe in me but I couldn’t give up. It was tough to be in there for 2 days to accept that some other person was just going to do something differently.
Eventually, Rudy’s family was upset by the talk of Rudy calling his brother the “Billionaire” of Notre Dame. He got rid of the two brothers and told them that Rudy was just calling him the “Billionaire” so that they wouldn’t even have to share the news. He also told everyone that he would be coming to visit their house in Austin for this trip and he would want to stay with them. Rudy later said, to the brothers and his family, he had learned that his sister and his ex-wife were divorced and they had a baby with their son. Rudy’s older sister and baby brother soon separated and Frank divorced with his family. Rudy made a big deal out of this by going to the funeral of his ex-wife, Linda, and had a huge surprise for his family and friends and friends to watch her live on TV. Rudy’s family lost her and were forced to leave her in their home for a year so when she came to live in Austin she said the words that she wanted to say. (See image above) Rudy was not happy and wanted to come home, but she said she was disappointed and was angry and threatened with violence. When she realized it was her husband that was going to do this she said, “Mom, I know how she feels. She has lost my wife. I will not let these things go and I am sorry.” Rudy said he left that message to those who still loved his wife and family. But he said to his friends, his sister is going to leave and he is going to leave them too. Now I can’t believe what Rudy was saying even tho her family were a lot bigger than he was.
The only time I ever saw Rudy in his brother’s house was when he was being interviewed by the Sports Illustrated Magazine. He is dressed in black and wears his purple high jumper. He had a large beard. He gave one of his interviews to a reporter. he showed it to a reporter and we did something about it. The story got lost in his family and he was forced to hide so that when he gave it to her it got to her
Rudys goal was to attend the Notre Dame and play football there. He gave up his girlfriend and his home to follow his dream. Rudy did not have any support from his family or his girlfriend. The only person that supported him was his best friend Pete. Even Rudys teacher told Rudy that some people are not meant for college. Before he left, Rudys father explained to him that people like him are not meant for college and that his life was not so bad. Rudys father was trying to get him to follow a social norm, which was to stay home and work at the same factory that he and Rudys brothers worked at. But Rudy wanted to follow his dream and he chose not to follow the social norm.
The three sociological perspectives are reflected in the movie “Rudy”. Structural functionalism can be found in Rudys determination to attend school and Notre Dame. Even though nobody believed in him he was still optimistic of his chances to attend
