Sitting on your old scummy couch, stuffing your already fat face with a greasy bag of chips reflecting on your life but realizing that your life is just as blank as the TV youâve been staring at for hours. Unable to move; not because you are injured but because you donât know how to. Paralyzed. Thatâs the word the doctors used to describe your condition. Youâre angry because you tried everything in your power to avoid this. You say ââitâs not fairââ because you know so many people who risked their lives doing âdangerous sportsâ yet are still alive and well today. You think about what could have transpired if you had in fact risked your precious life doing those extreme sports. Maybe then you would have at least had valued memories and experiences to share and when people ask âwhat happenedââ you would have a more exciting story to tell instead of simply replying that you fell down the stairs. In life everything is dangerous and though some activities may be more extreme and require more courage, anything can leave you with a permanent or life changing injury and in most cases, death.
Lots of people believe that âdangerousâ sports can risk peopleâs lives. However research shows that over 80% of people who do these dangerous sports say ââ it was an experience of a lifetime; completely amazing!ââ So isnât having an experience of a lifetime worth endangering your life when we donât have long to live for anyway? Many say ââlife is too shortââ so why not enjoy everything life has to offer instead of sitting at home wondering what could have ensued. Let us think about those with limited time to live (those with cancer, AIDs, diabetes etc.). Do we deprive them of having fun and living their lives to the fullest because of our own stupid and unnecessary concerns? If we do Iâm sorry to say that we are unquestionably the selfish ones.
People argue that these âdangerousâ sports are too scary. People are terrified of risk. Just the thought that something might happen chases peIyr0- ople away. Nonetheless doesnât facing your fears provide one with a sense of accomplishment? Doesnât one feel more proficient in life?
