Public transportation is also one of the main and growing industries today. There are a variety of factors that can affect technician’s earnings if the decision is made to go in to the diesel technician profession full time. For example, depending on the type of employment or company, whether it’s a fleet dealer or a repair shop, the possibility of being paid commissions to supplement a base wage is likely. This type of pay depends on one major factor, if the work is available. Most shops that do not have work for their technicians send them home after a certain amount of time without pay. This does not mean that there are not company’s that pay an hourly wage. When working for one of these companies’ the technician eliminates the possibility earning less or potentially more then their base hourly pay, not including any overtime or holidays worked. This school offers various classes and even the opportunity to obtain an associates degree. This training is very inexpensive compared to a school the UTI, which can cost thousands in tuition and housing each year. Since the closest campus for diesel programs besides Miramar College is in Nevada, relocation may have to be considered. Another major expense for a technician is tools. Tools are what can be a extremely important factor when seeking employment. Companies like Snap On
