Dracula the Nightmare
Scary stories are usually based on how the novel can keep the reader in suspense. Most of the time scary stories usually consist of supernatural, unpredictable, and gore events that dont ordinary happened in real life of in any nonfiction novel. The way the setting where the characters and the setting are described is what grabs the reader attention and is what keeps them in fear. Anyone who has read a scary story or seen a scary movie would find it a lot simpler to comprehend Dracula. Through out all these events that happened it provides the reader with an urge to foreshadow on what might happened next. the novel Dracula is easily catorgized as a scary story because of the moments of unpredictable suspense ,Gore, , and supernatural events that the author Bram Stoker discusses throughout the novel while the reader is reading Dracula the reader is always predictin on how Dracula really is and why he continues so long with hes terrifying actions. As the reader continues to read they never really get an insight on who Dracula really is and do to the lack of insight on Dracula is what makes Dracula so mysterious and scary at the same time. Over the years Dracula has been considered one of the most famous and scariest novels ever written due to the supernatural, horrific unpredictable events that occur throughout the story.
Dracula is one of the most unpredictable novels even written because of all the unpredictable events that happened that the reader does not know is going to happened. All the unpredictable moments are what gives the reader a twist. The reader sometimes may go back and
read to see if they can figure out why it happened. In Dracula when Reinfield is introduced he says “I am here to do your bidding, master, I am your slave, and you will reward me. For I shall be faithfull. I have worshipped you long and afar off. Now that you are near. I await your commands, and you will not pass me by, will you, dear master, in your distribution of googthins?”{Stoker pg.99} this quote supports the idea that Dracula is acray because at this point when reinfield is turning himself into Dracula the reader does not know if reinfield will esape or if he will completely be possessed by Dracula and take our every one in the aslym. Another example that proves that Dracula is unpredictable is when Mina wants to meet Reinfield and Dr. Searward is uneasy about this action because of Reinfield unsual behavior. When mina meets Reinfield, Reinfield personality changes drastically and is very polite this makes Dr. Seaward very nervous and joins the conversation between mina and Reinfield. When mina excuses herself and says goodbye Reinfield replies “goodbye, my dear. I pray god I may never see your sweet face again may he bless and keep you”{Stoker ch 18}. In this quote this keeps the reader wondering if Reinfield will act Mina because he is under the control of Dracula. It also specifies if Reinfield know of something that might happened to mina in the future. In the movie Ruins directed by Carter Smith it involves a group of friend who plan a trip to Mexico and get trapped in a Mayan village and Jeff says to the Mayans” You dont even know our names. You dont know any of our names. Im Jeff. Jeff Dean McIntyre. Winnetka, Illinois. Twenty-two years old. I was going to be a doctor. That was my dream. Thats all I wanted. You should know her name, too. Her name is Amy! Shes not going to die in this fucking place.” In this event Jeff and Amy are facing the Mayan Jeff is putting his life on the line to make sure Amy gets out alive but it is not for certain. The ruin is as scary as Dracula because
they are many moments that are unpredictable and the readers has no sense of what might happened next you just have to continue on watching or reading.
