Explain the Main Differences or Similarities Between Scientific Management and Human Relations
Nowadays, Scientific Management and Human Relation theories have been seen as a model for production process in most of the factories currently. Both theories have the same main objective of a rise in output and the effective use of resources, in order to eliminate waste created. However, both theories have various different characteristic, for example, Scientific Management will only focus on the time of production which is the opposite of Mayo. In this essay there will be two main parts, one will be about Taylor study, the other will look at Hawthorne theories and lastly the essay will talk through the similarities and conclude the points.
Scientific Management theory was established by Frederick Taylor during the 20th century, in order to improve demotivation problem, which at that certain period the name for it is called soldiering. The word soldiering was (The Economist, 2016) define as a way to under-work or restrict the output created. Moreover, another key concept of this management is “maximum prosperity”, which means not only higher wages for workers, but it also means the improvement in the state of efficiency and doing work at the highest grade which suits the natural abilities of workers (Xroads.virginia.edu, 2016). Furthermore, another vital concept of this is “Time and Motion Study”, where managers need to time each movement of workers so that, they would know exactly how many minutes would each piece takes to produce. Therefore, “Time and Motion Study” creates a link with a publication of piece rate system which was published in 1895. According to (Preservearticles.com, 2016), the piece rate system was being used as the fundamental base in most of the factories currently.
Human Relation theory was discovered by a psychologist called Elton Mayo since 1930 (Library.hbs.edu, 2016). During this period, Mayo is doing a research on the industrial fatigue and the nature of it. There is two main experiment that has
