Dover Beach
“Dover Beach” is a poem by Matthew Arnold. It is an ode and praises the beauty of Dover Beach. This poem is a beautiful ode that illustrates the majesty and peacefulness of the ocean view. The author describes Dover Beach best and beautifully as “Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land”. The author uses great imagery to describe his love for this place.

The author also describes the history of Dover Beach “where ignorant armies clash by night”, referring to a battle fought on Dover Beach. I did not know where Dover Beach was and had to look it up. Dover Beach is the shore of the English ferry port that faces France at the narrowest part of the English Channel.

This poem makes you feel peaceful and in love with the beauty of the shore and sea. Reading and reflecting on this poem I feel a anew respect for the sea, and realize that Dover Beach means many different things to many different people. I have more respect and want to visit and see the beauty of Dover beach.

“Second Coming” is a poem by William Butler Yeats. “The Second Coming” is a short poem that doesn’t follow a particular rhyming scheme. “The Second Coming” is about the second coming of Christ. The poem seems like a prophecy. It describes the second coming of Jesus Christ “Bethlehem to be born”.

This poem makes me feel kind of creepy. It’s not like a standard bible verse and is a different interpretation. I couldn’t tell if he was describing the apocalypse or Jesus coming or both. Reading and reflecting on this poem has made me think about religion and if there will ever actually be a second coming and what it would be like now a days.
