Self-concept is basically how I see myself in multi-dimensional concept, which include gender, sexuality, social status, beliefs, education, racial identity and many others. I truly believe that all this aspects have tremendous impact on communication. Let say, that a person who lives in community where certain race is majority, but that person is different race, I think that this person will communicate on different base as a rest of the community. The language is different,also the body language. Or another edge example can be a person who lives in community where the majority religion is different like his or her. But what if we insert somebody into mixed community, where no race, ethnicity or religion has majority? In my opinion, this community should be living in harmony and tolerance. But is is always happening?
I had a chance to be few time on both situations: be a member of majority, or be a part of minority. In both case I was trying to keep my own personal identity, but kinda tolerate the big group. One of my intercultural experiences where I can demonstrate it was, when I visited Turkey last time. It was during their month Rammadan, when a large number of Muslim followers are spending hours in mosque, by praying a lecturing. During that time many things are prohibited or unwanted, so it is not recommended to take pictures or making noise while they are praying. I, as a part of minority at that time and place, I was showing respect to them as much I was able to.
