Executive Summary
Singapore Airlines, founded in 1972, has started from simply a small-scaled airline to one of the best and top choices in air industry. In order to provide the best customer and quality service as well as experience for in-flight customers, SIA has since been first in terms of experiential and entertainment technologies.

Sustainability is a process in which companies manage its economic, social and environmental risks, obligations and opportunities and SIA is one amongst the many companies demonstrating sustainability.

The main issue of each type of sustainability is mentioned below:
Environmental Sustainability: SIA has addressed the main areas of concern in relation to the environment and has taken steps by opting for aircrafts that provide fuel efficiency so as to reduce greenhouse emissions.

Economical Sustainability: SIA makes revenue through investments of its 36 direct subsidiaries and associated companies. Apart from this, the company is looking at avenues to entice customers such as new destinations with new aircrafts and by also revealing plans about the launch of its low cost carrier.

Social Sustainability:
Corporate Social Responsibility: SIA supports (via corporate donations, sponsorships and contributions) programmes and initiatives in the arts, sports, community welfare, and education that are organised for the benefit of various communities throughout the world.

Social Learning: An employee is better equipped with better skills by going through the process regularly. SIA practices this through job rotation by moving executives between departments every few years.

Classical and Operant Conditioning: Both Classical and Operant Conditioning are similar. However, under the findings of Classical Conditioning (Salivate experiment), it supports the idea that we develop responses to certain stimuli that are not naturally occurring whereas the term “Operant” refers to how a person or an animal operates on the environment, and hence, operant conditioning comes from how we respond to what is presented to us in our environment. It can be thought of as learning due to the natural consequences of our actions. As such, all cabin crew are required to undergo 15 weeks of rigid and meticulous training programmes such as SEP (Safety and Emergency Procedure) training, water survival training and emergency drills.

Reinforcement & Punishment: SIA has implemented both short and long-term incentive plans to further motivate and reward employees who exhibit excellent behaviours and performance. Employees who do not portray themselves well or carry out their duties diligently would lead to negative reinforcement to prevent or reduce the likelihood of negative consequences. In the event if a wrongdoing keeps repeating, hence the administering of punishment. Before administering such means of punishment, all employees would go through a performance appraisal that would be conducted regular intervals so that the team leaders could have a verbal interaction with the staff under them to evaluate their character.

Self Management: Holistic staff development concentrates on self management where the staffs of SIA develop their own true potential and set personal standards to meet the high standard of the company.
