During this semester we were asked to attend a seminar of our choice, and discuss what our impression of the seminar was. The seminar I chose was “Barack Obama in Hawaii & Indonesia” by Dinesh Sharma. The seminar covered many different parts of President Obamas childhood, and how it has shaped him into the man he is today. The first aspect we learned about was his families make up, and how the women in his life shaped his character. These women include his mother Anna Dunham, Grandmother Madelyn Dunham, and wife Michelle. Another part of his we learn about is his schooling in Indonesia and Hawaii. As a youth he played on his high school basketball team. It was also said that he was very well liked and very smart. However it is revealed that as a teen he experienced an identity crisis. After high school he left Hawaii to come to the main land, and began his political career as a community organizer shortly after. The seminar was closed with Obamas present issues as the President. The fact that he has inherited a country in distress and it is now his duty to “Reimagine the American Dream”.
I personally felt like the topic of choice for this seminar was very interesting, but the presentation itself was a bit dry. I felt that it had the potential to be more interesting if the presenter was more enthusiastic in his presentation. But other than that I felt like it was a very interesting seminar.
