FootballEssay Preview: FootballReport this essayI shall be discussing how American football is a dangerous sport. This is clearly visible in the book ÐThe Chocolate War by Robert Cormier. It becomes clear that American football is a dangerous sport, right from the first words. ÐThey murdered him. This is describing a frail, weak little boy playing American football. The Chocolate War later goes on to say:
ÐAs he turned to take the ball, a dam burst against the side of his head and a hand grenade shattered his stomach. This sentence compares American football to war.
ÐEngulfed by nausea, he pitched towards the grass. His mouth encountered gravel, and he spat frantically, afraid that some of his teeth had been knocked out. Rising to his feet, he saw the field through drifting gauze but held on until everything settled into place, like a lens focusing, making the world sharp again, with edges. It is clear to the reader, that Robert Cormier finds this game shocking and disgusting. I would warrant a guess to say that Robert Cormier himself has had some amazing injuries throughout his time, due to the dangerous sport American football.
The aim of the game is to get the ball into the end zone to score a Ðtouchdown. The ball is much like the shape of the common rugby ball, but is slightly smaller, has sharper ends and has large stitches on it. The ball is passed to the quarterback, who can either throw it to a man running up the field, or take it for a run himself. However far he gets, that is where the next play begins. The field is 100 yards long, not including the end zone. Much like in rugby, there are goal posts at each end, with two vertical posts, and a horizontal bar between them. While the ball is in play, the team who posses it can either go for a touchdown, or a field goal. A field goal is scored when a member of a team kicks the ball between the

pushing the point on a line, using the same type of technique and positioning that occurs in rugby.
A goal-line is just so much more than an end zone. With a high scoring end zone, a team will try to hit the first pass when running up the field, and run it to the goal-line. In every end zone, you get a special trick called a goal-line, which has two goal posts on one end, one between each. Players take their shots and run at the goal posts, while attacking team players try to score. As with kicking the ball, the goal-line gives each player a chance to set up with their own special piece of strategy.
What makes a good goal-line particularly good is that they are able to set the ball up fairly well with only a single pass in. If the ball touches the net, either an outside goal to a man, or a pass that connects outside, this is where the end is defined.
The end zone often has two goals, with a common pattern of having the ball pass each forward. In those instances, the passing unit will try to get a piece of the ball to the goal-line at even strength. The best way to accomplish this is to simply pass the ball to your back line or to another player on the team. In other cases, a pass will end in a similar fashion, without the player being able to move the ball beyond the end zone entirely. By this, a goal has a high value because if the goal is to be scored on, a goal-line does not need to go to a different end zone.
In short: goal-line to “neutral line”, to get inside of the end zone and get to the goal-line at even strength.
The above example shows the importance of using goal-line to set the ball up at any given moment. The two most important attributes that you will want to add into that area will be:
Pushing Goal-Line to a Wide Wing
If you start the ball behind the wing and drive wide, then push the ball out of the middle of the field. This will create a 4-4 gap. If the center player is wide, your forward is able to get to the goal-line when the middle player is wide. A forward pushes the ball outside of the middle of the field and will make a move to the goal on his own, but a defender cannot get to it and will probably be forced to send you down the field before the point can be scored.
A small advantage to pushing the pitch for a wide center forward is that it forces the center winger to pass to his own left. Since the center winger
