Journal one Lily Ramlakhan Sign language Nonverbal CommunicationVery basic, simple and common-sense way of communicating with deaf people. Sign Language is well- known as the worlds most easily learned language. The signs explained ideas and the language put into words a message that deaf persons use to communicate. Basic Native American sign language is stress-free to understand. The combination of meaning and movement in signing, allows you to learn the meaning of a gesture, while you create in your mind the movement. This is what I am at this time learning in my sign language class. I learn that sign language shows how powerful nonverbal communication can be, even when first meeting a deaf person, and how we notice their movements and facial expressions can give us clues to how they are feeling, and how we might interact with them. These clues take account of how happy the person is, how trustworthy they are, how sensitive they are, and how enthusiastic they are. All these qualities were noticed when learning sign language. The lessons concluded that smiling is a tremendously important form of nonverbal communication, and it is used generally as a noticeable and pleasing form of nonverbal communication. I also learn that the more usually known means of non-verbal communication involve the eyes, face and body. Some of the least known means of non-verbal communication involve bodily appearance, space, touch, clothes and vocal cues. Communication is a process by which we give off signals ourselves and receive as well as read between the lines the signals of others, using our five senses. The senses, used for human communication, are hearing, sound production, sight, touch, smell and taste. It also points out the importance of these elements in non-verbal communication. My learning of sign language is actual fun I hope to learn much more in the next class.
