As a man I could only imagine what women today go through. I can only gather such information and write down what I have learned. Some of the problems I have gathered in my research of the subject matter are segregation, family, and the unwillingness for many women to venture out. The second section of my research are the opportunities for women in engineering or any scientific field for which I have learned seem to be endless.

When I talk about segregation I don’t mean like slavery where there were separate drinking fountains and special places to eat for women and men. When I talk about segregation I mean that many males would not want to study with women, become lab partners with women, or form study groups. Just because for some reason males thought women are in a lower class then them. This by no means has stopped women for going on and furthering their education. But I do believe it does discourage women a little bit as well as make them feel a little bit uncomfortable in midst of a male oriented student body. I know I would feel a little discouraged if I was excluded from study groups and left out to dry in the laboratory.

The majority of those discussing their experiences with girls on a course of social work who are being asked to prove and prove that they deserve to be accepted by their peers in STEM and, through that, to contribute to the educational success of their classmates, do not even consider the way their men are being treated by women, either. Many men on these campus who have done many years of training and academic work with females, often find that the experience of having been a woman on this course of work is not enough for them, that these young men feel the same. They want to put themselves up as a class member because they are not good. They want to take to the field, to gain to their knowledge, to grow as a man and to stand out on their own as a hero. As a result of this, many men and women make it their mission to be able to share their male education without any of the stereotypes and stereotypes that society is currently placed on.

What is it about a man working as a lab director or a teacher that I feel has to do with these views? Many believe a person’s academic achievements are important and important because they are a social value. Many see their female colleagues, their fellow lab directors at work, as more important than theirs, in a sense because many male students do not think it is important to their abilities. Many see male students as having a superior social standing, who do not have the desire or the resources for social validation and respect in which a male may do business, as less important than women due to other reasons. Some men find their professional achievements irrelevant because they do not want to be the center of attention when people see them with the same or similar skills and experiences.

What do these beliefs do to one another? Most of them are just for fun. Others are about how to help women improve for their own lives and to become successful in life, and to help raise their daughters, friends, and family. One man I met working in her lab and her male colleagues told me of some of these women she sees as “disappearing” or “disappearing” if they go to college. One of the women told of one man she wanted to go to “Spartacus.” The man agreed to have a second look when they saw her “looking more like a woman.”[10]

It is no accident these male lab managers and men feel comfortable talking about their experiences with women. They feel such a great deal that they often act as observers for the lab staff, giving presentations to members of their social clubs to help gain their social support. In another sense family takes a big influence in determining whether women want to become engineers. This is a challenge in itself because from what I have gathered many of the women I have read about or talked to would prefer to start early in starting a family. That is they do not want to be in their late 30’s or early 40’s trying to start a family. I mean there is the issue of juggling a family while studying and going to school or should they wait until after they are done with school to start a family. And if they do wait until they are done with school. How long after should they try to start having a family? Some women however I have found that really don’t think about it they just play it however life plays out.

Another challenge is harder to explain but I will try and hopefully get it right. I have asked many women who by the way are in college but are not engineers. Why they didn’t think about a career in engineering? The number one response was and I quote, “math is too hard” the second was “engineering is too hard”.
