Abuse and Drug Use
“The first step in helping abused or neglected children is learning to recognize the signs of child abuse and neglect” (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2007). One sign does not necessarily mean child abuse is taken place however if the signs are combined or show up repetitively then looking into the situation may be necessary. Some of these signs include:
Abrupt modifications in behavior or performance at school
Bodily or Health problems that have not been dealt with by the parents
Difficulty concentrating that is not linked to any particular issue
Always on the lookout like something bad is bound to happen
Adult supervision is low
Withdrawn from the rest of the class
Child attempt to stay at school late, not wanting to go home
“Recognizing the signs of addiction can be challenging, especially when it comes to teenagers” (Childhelp, 2013). Drug Abuse causes the brain that makes the user not see the total effects of the using. The earlier the detection is made the better because it can prevent extended destruction. Some of the signs include:
Child behavior changes rapidly from highs to extreme lows
Sudden change in apparel (wearing long sleeve in the summer)
Unusual bottles or packages found
Nosebleeds or always sniffling as if having a runny nose all the time
Withdrawal from things that were once important (sports)
