Abstract:
This lab was assigned to show how to properly graph data collected from an experiment. The graph was on velocity, time, and displacement. All of the basics of graphing were covered, including: how to set up your graph, make sure to always put units behind everything that needs them, and also how to set up scales on a graph. Then we had to graph the data properly from the chart and construct a trend line. Our algebra skills came in handy because we had to find the slope of the graphed data on each of the 3 graphs. The results varied differently from graph to graph, in Velocity vs. Time the slope was 13.5 m/s^2. In Displacement vs. Time Squared the slope was 6.79 m/s^2. Lastly in Velocity Squared vs. Displacement the slope was 27.2 m.The mathematics used in this lab were basic algebra skills. Using the slope formula m= change in y/ change in x, we found the different slopes of each of the three graphs. Also there was some calculation involved which consisted of squaring the velocity and time column.
Procedure:
The experiment was formed by constructing graphs of Velocity vs. Time, Displacement vs. Time Squared, and Velocity Squared vs. Displacement. Then we had to calculate the slope of each graph by taking two different points on the graph and plugging them into the slope format to get the answer.
