Social media is a communication between individuals through social networking. (www.ask,Michael Haenlein) define social media as “a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, and that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content”. Common social media includes sites such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and many more. These sites promote social networking and other relative activity.
Social media can have negative and positive effects on young teens. Physical bullies can turn into cyber-bullies just by accessing social web sites. There are some positive effects for example, a teen name Sammy thinks he looks good because he has a few likes on his Facebook photo. At first he was shy and had no association with women. But now He feels more self-confidence towards talking to women because of the likes he has on Facebook.

Social media can be used in many different ways; it just depends on what social site. Some teens use social media sites to stay in contact with friends and family. Its also a resource for individuals to get information besides standard news. People can see what clothes are in style by looking at trends and other similar tools on social web site. Teens can own businesses and use social media site to promote their products and services. But because social media has improved, teens are physically less active.
From personal experience, a teen can be stuck social networking making them less communicative outside the cyber community. They can have an important essay to do for class, but can get thrown off track because of their addiction to social networking. People can become so attach to social networking, they will start sharing their emotions and places they been too. Social media sites will become a part of everyday life as long as the individual engages with it.
