A restaurant is a marvelous business to own. Although it looks simple, owning a restaurant has a sufficient amount of stressful difficulties. To be successful in running a restaurant business, one must love what you do. There are many characteristics of one must possess to own a restaurant. Being an owner of such a grand business comes with ample responsibilities. Responsibilities and characteristics include the ability to communicate and solve problems with other people, money management, as well as perform and excel under stressful conditions, and multitask. This will require planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.
Planning a strategic business plan helps the company to define its mission and vision, giving the company a sense of purpose and direction that sets them apart from competitors (Pearce & Robinson, 2009) a mission statement also discusses the product and services conducted by the company. Developing a strong mission and vision statement clearly presents to potential and existing clientele what the company is about and what plan is for the future.
The mission statement would be to “Provide customers with a freshly good quality grilled dinner of choice that they can call in and pick up on their way home from work”. People these days stressed for time; they take the LIRR home from work, which takes then another hour, it would be convenient for them to pick up a freshly cooked dinner of their choice on the way home. Mission statements are the most valuable overviews of a company. It is what is separates a company with similar visions and goals from the next. A mission statement also represent the business philosophy of strategic decisions to the firms self-concept, primary customer needs of satisfaction, which in all reflect the values and priorities of the companys performance over a life time. (Pearce & Robinson, 2009)
The social, political, and economic forces do indeed influence how organizations operate as well as the practice of management. For example, when an organization plans to conduct marketing activities or expand its products or services, conducting a SWOT analysis to find out its strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats in order to move forward. They do this by evaluating the social, political, and economic forces in the environment.
The values of the restaurant influences how we make decisions, what decisions we will make and how are to be judged by our customers and society on our actions. The company will promote social responsibility by providing a code of ethics developed to let our employees know and understand direction and be consistent with the companys codes and policies. The set of ethics for the company will be as follows:
All employees will practice food safety.
Employees will be incompliance with all laws, rules, and regulations.
All employees will conduct themselves in an appropriate and professional manner when fulfilling duties affiliated with the company.
Employees are to be equally treated and not discriminated against for race, religion, gender, or beliefs.
The success of the company based on our customers, and making our customers our number one priority by meeting their needs and wants will better increase the quality of our services.
There is a Zero Tolerance Policy affecting those who are dishonest in this company. You will automatically terminated and legal action sought towards those who remove property of this company without the permission from its owners.
These rules are that they are standard to what a functional business would use. Having structure for employees to follow and letting them know there will be consequences to their actions if they disregard the rules. This will help the business run smoothly, and employees will know what we expect of them. A code of ethics is set for everyone to understand clearly and each employee no matter what position is at high expectations to follow the rules and regulations. Set up is a specific book of ethics for each employee to abstain from any kind of unethical behavior. Company employees are required as well as expected to be consistent with company rules at all times showing respect, following the law, treat others how they would like to be treated, show fairness and ethics at all times.
The strategic direction of the restaurant will involve looking realistically at the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the company. Understanding these will help put the objectives into action and establish long-term decisions that involve the employees management, resources, and how they interact. It is important that you evaluate your needs as a manger and should carefully consider all the circumstances surrounding the business in order to figure out how best manage employees and what style of management used.
As the economy is growing, many modern people have to live and work in a very fast tune. They do not have much more time for ingredients and preparing food at home so that they are eager to find a fast and convenient way for their meals. The economic climate sometimes affects the consumers choice of restaurants. In the current economic downturn, the affordable and reasonable price attracts so many people and helps them go through difficult times. In the same time, it would increase the job supply, which makes positive influences in the current economic downturn. Even though the U.S. is in the economic downturn, the fast food industry still brings government huge of tax. In 2010, the total revenue was 184 billion U.S. Dollars generated by the fast food industry. (Richter) The fast food industry has had great influence in the modern economic system.
Social Environment will look at the attitudes of consumers toward health, and their beliefs. The social environmental factors include the demographic and cultural aspects of the external macro-environment. These factors affect customer needs and the size of potential markets. Political factors include government regulations and legal issues and define both formal and informal rules under which the business must operate. The economic factors affect the purchasing power of potential customers and the cost of capital for the business. According to Daft and Lane (2009), the economic forces pertain to the availability, production, and distribution of resources in society.
In the beginning, using the authoritarian style would give the most control. This style will be useful because the employees hired will have no knowledge about the project at hand and must be able to delegate and oversee employees job duties
