According to Crowther and Rayman (2004) Social Responsibility is about respecting ethical values, improving human quality of life in, preserving natural environments and supporting local community. This can become quite costly and time consuming for small businesses when they start up. Jim informed us that social responsibility was not heard of as much when he innately started out but Jim acknowledged that this is vital in todays business environment.
Wickham (2006) explains the importance of the idea of corporate social responsibility and how it has become extremely important to any successful business. He told us that employees expect rewards for their efforts, customers expect the business to be a good supplier, and investors expect to generate return on investment. In todays environment the overall community expects companies like Jims to make a positive contribution to the quality of local life.
Philip A wickham cites Nash (1995) who suggests that it is good business practice to adapt a good social responsibility strategy and this in return can help maximize profitability which will lead to a win-win situation. This view is becoming important and is a must for good PR relations within organization. Jim explained that regulation was not as heavy when he was in business and that because of this it was much easier to set up your own business. He informed us that it is a must for companies to utilize social responsibility to attract investors and remain competitive in todays market place. The life is on the top
