Conceptual Framework
Figure 1 shows that the context is the experience of role reversal and that the variables: that self-esteem, locus of control, and social support are connected to individuals subjective well-being. Self-esteem, locus of control, and social support are the predictor variables, while subjective well-being is the criterion variable. Furthermore, different predictor variables correlate with each other as possible predictors of the criterion variable.
Figure 1. Conceptual framework shows the experiences under role reversal. And show the predictors of Subjective Well-being of OFW husbands, which are, self-esteem, locus of control and social support.
The experiences of role reversal take place when a person would play a role that they dont normally play in cases where the person who usually plays that role is not present.
This study focuses on how the variables: self-esteem, locus of control and social support will predict subjective well-being of husbands of an OFW wife . Subjective well-being, according to Diener (2000), is peoples emotion and cognitive evaluations of their lives that include happiness and life satisfaction.
The first variable is self-esteem. According to the National Association for Self -esteem, it is the experience of being capable of meeting lifes challenges and being worthy of happiness. The second variable is locus of control; the degree to which an individual believes the occurrence of reinforcements is contingent on his or her own behavior. The locus of control would help the husbands in their everyday challenges. They would feel a sense of direction and command in managing the household.
The third variable is social support, which refers to the family and the people around a person who he or she can depend on. Having to take care of the family by himself, the husband would need a support system where he can get help and support in the difficult task of handling the family.
