King Henry ViiiEssay Preview: King Henry ViiiReport this essayAisha GrahamSocial DarwinismExplain why you agree or disagree with the basic principal of Social Darwinism?I do not agree with the basic principal of Social Darwinism because some may work just as hard as others but may support a family or even do as Carnegie did and give back to the community, not giving them a chance to rise up to the top as those who were selfish and kept their money.
How do those with great wealth justify their position of socio-economic status? With having so much money the wealthy greatly influenced the government to lean toward policies helping business. They justify themselves as being higher up because they worked harder for it and endured “survival of the fittest”.
Does the answer to question 2 justify the existence of Social Darwinism?Yes, the wealthy all supported the idea of Social Darwinism because it gave them the right to do what they wanted with their money making them very powerful.
Should society help those that are less fortunate?Yes, I think people in a society should help the less fortunate. Maybe not give them tons of money but at least get them on their feet to help them get where they are wanting to go so they and provide for themselves again.
Who should we trust to help those in need? Whose responsibility is it according to Andrew Carnegie? The government would be someone to trust when there are people in need. According to Carnegie it is the job of the wealthy to give back to the society by distributing their wealth in the community.
SocialismWhat is the definition of “Socialism”?It is the sharing of economic power between all people no matter your race, or sex, or class. What demands (based on the late 1800s) do you agree with?Better working hours for the people and also the abolition of laws discriminating women.Which of the Socialist demands do you feel are in need today and why?Public credit used for employing the unemployed along with abolition of war and international arbitration.Historically speaking, why do people fear Socialism?Socialism was something new and foreign to them and trying something new is and was a fear of the people.Politics todayPlace the following groups (according to your understanding) on this political spectrum
A) Social democrats of social welfare who want to help the working class.B) Crazies of socialist and libertarian parties (depending on your perspective).C) The socialists.A) The Marxists – people with little or no education – but who want to help the people and to keep the money flowing for a socialist utopia.B) The communist trade unions and small trade unions. They are those organisations that oppose socialism, the workers, with their ‘free market’ system.C) The communists who want a better education system. These are people that want to keep the money flowing for a socialist utopia.A) If a socialist utopia were to be created, the proletariat would have to work. This would mean, they would have to work by themselves. It also means that the country would not be able to make up its own mind about such a idea.In some countries, where the work is limited to few people who are working and have a good job, and who would be able to provide for their family – an economy that is based on a fair system of justice, liberty and a fair government would develop. In many countries where this is the case, the capitalist system would not be the same as an adequate welfare state, but in most countries Socialism, the people would develop themselves along with it and see it go through the process of political democracy.Socialists in general and socialists in particular, would see Socialism as a movement built on the premise that capitalism will never come about, because of the exploitation the working class has against its oppressors in the social society. To understand why socialism fails in this regard – it isn’t an ideology that is founded on this – it is an idea that is based on the idea that all work will continue in their name if the capitalist system comes to an end. And socialism is also something that you don’t like to have to deal with in practice. There is a very clear dichotomy between the social rights of the working class and the rights of the capitalists. The idea that all workers can be equal in equality of opportunities under capitalism is very far removed from this concept. It’s a simple statement of the theory and practice. The workers would be able to achieve some of the most important and basic societal benefits to their nations. The people would be able to create and maintain democratic conditions that will protect citizens from exploitation, improve the quality of life for their children, and keep people alive for much longer. However, the workers also would be able to ensure that women and children remain fully able to vote, participate economically, be able to see doctors and social workers, and to make sure that all of their rights and freedoms are kept in place. It’s impossible to imagine a society in which everyone is equal but, to be sure, the average citizen has certain privileges, but that doesn’t mean that all individuals have the same freedom
