Why to Wear Protection During the Solar Eclipse
We all have heard about the Solar Eclipse but we also heard about the horrible things the Solar Eclipse can do to youre eyes, but here are what they can do to your eyes and what you can do to prevent tgemThe Solar eclipse is one of the most anticipated events of 2017, where we get to see totality, a once in a life time moment that will happen in front of our eyes. Well, in front b/c thru Pre-K all the way through now people tell you not to look at the sun. Now, there are many reasons why you should look up at the sun, but I’m going to tell you the most important (and obvious) reason why you shouldn’t look at the sun. The most important reason is that you will permanently damage your eyes. If you don’t believe me, Im pretty sure you’ll listen to Louis Tomososki, where in a Solar Eclipse he looked directly at the sun and left him a blind spot in his right eye, and all of this happened in a few seconds. According to David J Calkins, vice director of the Vanderbilt Institute, we can’t see infrared light coming from the sun, but it can cause burns that won’t heal, he also added to this statement by saying “We don’t feel pain receptors in the retina, so we wont know its occurring.” This is all bad because if you don’t feel pain in our retina we are unable to detect we are destroying it unless we look away from the sun then release you have a blind spot in your eyeball, and it may happen in a few seconds just like how Louis Tomososki got blinded. As reported by Dr. Christopher Quinn, he stated: “It can range from blurry vision to absolute permanent vision loss”. Meaning if too much UV Rays flooded into your retina you can have a partial change in vision or in extreme cases can cause blindness, but if you don’t look at the sun you wont suffer these consequences… Except for the consequence of not being able to see the eclipse.        If you cant look at the sun how are you going to witness the “once in a life time moment that will happen in front of our eyes”. Well there are two ways and here they are. The first and the best way to experience the Solar Eclipse is to use Solar Filters, glasses that have a 3-D glasses feel but with a sun blocking lens. But of course if you don’t have the right lens to view the eclipse, you will see a blind spot in your eye. But what lens do you need to use, you may be asking yourself well according to NASA, you need  ISO 12312-2 lenses to be able to watch the eclipse safely, and their pretty cheap on average they’ll cost $1-$10 so get your glasses, they’re not that expensive considering this once in a lifetime moment. Or if you unfortuanality cant be able you can make a pinhole projection of it. All you need is a empty cereal box, scissors, white paper, tape, alumiunum foil and a nail. First, trace the white paper to make it fit along the bottom of your cereal box. Next, tape the piece of paper inside the bottom of the box and seal the cereal box up with tape. After that, use the scissors to cut rectangulat holes on the pinnacle of the cereal box on the left and right side of the box. Then, cut a piece of aluminum foil big enough to cover the left rectangular hole and tape the edges of the foil. Finnaly, use the nail to  poke a hole in the center of the foil. But what about anything without solar filters like a telescope or a camera? Well if you point any of those things or things that are related to the telescope or the camera, either 2 things will happen, 1. If you look through a telescope or anything related to a telescope, youre basically looking at the sun but in close up, which is bad. And 2. Your camera lens will burn. But if you use a solar filter on these things you should be fine. Now after following all of these safety precautions you are now finally able to watch the eclipse!
