Soviet Union Case
Was the end of Soviet Union inevitable? (CHAP 9)(THEME 4)
I agree that the end of Soviet Union is inevitable. This was caused by many reasons such as internal weakness and external pressure.
The end of Soviet Union is inevitable due to some internal weakness. One weakness was the shortage of basic goods; this resulted in citizens not having basic goods. This caused many people to use illegal ways to get the goods. In addition, it also caused the officials who controlled the goods to be corrupted as people would offer more money to get the goods. Furthermore, another weakness was that most money was spent on military. Due to this, there is not enough money to improve the living conditions of people. As a result, it caused unhappiness as they had not enough food to feed their family and also poor living conditions. This led to discontentment thus not wanting to improve the country. When USSR is in debt, there will be no extra money to develop the country but to decline slowly until the end. Therefore, due to the debt increasing rapidly, it causes the end of Soviet Union.
However, there are reasons which show that the end of Soviet Union is not inevitable. If the leaders had found a way to co-exist peacefully with the west without creating so much tension and distrust. USSR would not have
