America was established by a few major countries. England was a major influence and provider for 13 specific colonies. These colonies are separated into 3 different broader sections; New England Colonies, Mid-Atlantic Colonies, and Southern Colonies. All of these sections vary from the other; mostly by culture and economy.
The New England colonies had a more industrial based economy compared the more Southern colonies. These colonies had to lean on the skills of the colonists rather than the land. This was due to the in climate weather of the frosty north. As colonist had learned from early settlers, the winters were brutal and the summers scorching, while the soil was rocky and unfertile. Fishing was to be proven a very useful trade for the aid of America from England; along with, ship building, lumbering, and rum distilling. All of these were considered industries since none actually involved any sort of farming or irrigation of the soil.
This greatly differed from the Southern colonies. The land here was rich with nutrients and the weather rainy and warm. These conditions made it perfect for this area to grow whatever they pleased. In these early days the staple crop was tobacco. America monopolized this market in England making it simpler for these southern colonists to be a part of slavery.
Cultural differences however are very few. The main difference is religious tolerance. In the New England colonies welcomed all religions; but still preferred Christians. The Southern colonies on the other hand were strictly catholic and had very little religious tolerance.
In accordance to all of this, all of the colonies were not so different after all. All of these differences were also factors in the revolutionary war. So just remember that even the slightest differences can cause major chaos.
