Learning is basically a combination of different experiences in which individual skills like knowledge, behaviors and attitudes are combined. When we learn it is a lifelong process not focused only on notions that school and training is essential for development. As we come to study degrees, certificates and even grades are not necessarily major factors in proving the worth or level to which one has learned. People learn at a subconscious level that is more of a passive ability (Cobb, 2010).
Learning is done in many different ways, through many levels of effort. When we speak of learning through efforts this would be an example is academic situations such as school. A student studying for a major exam will attempt to learn and memorize as much material as he or she is able. This form of learning requires effort, which is done by “cramming” academic materials in hopes of memorizing them. An example of more passive learning is the ability to determine potential physical risks, such as an open flame or electricity. The skill to determine if something is potentially harmful is not an innate ability but is rather learned through experience.
Learning through experience can come in many forms not always as noticeable as others. For example, students in an academic setting have different learning styles. This specific type of learning ability could allow students to absorb information in a classroom setting effortlessly. This type of learning is more of a passive ability, rather than something that requires effort to accomplish. This type of student could be learning although not paying any attention what so ever in a classroom. This type of learning also can be accomplished outside of a classroom setting within society passively (Advanogy, 2007).
Types of Learning
The learning process is defined as the knowledge that individuals draw from experiences and events in their lives. Analysis in-depth would suggest that the learning process is achieved through the recognition of the association between events and experiences in ones life. Because of these experiences, the behavior and attitude of the individual undergoes changes. Whether these changes are positive or negative, events allow for a better understanding of an individuals environment and how he or she affects that environment.
The four main methods of learning are operant conditioning, classical conditioning, non-associative learning, and social learning. The two methods of learning that I will be focusing will be on social learning and classical conditioning. Classical conditioning is essentially learning through association.
Learning is a method that involves knowledge and attitudes gained from influential members of society. This knowledge and behavior is observed from members of society considered higher in rank or class
