Wesley the Owl
Wesley the Owl, written and narrated by Stacey OBrien, is an amazing book that describes the connection between humans and other animals. There are many things from this book that I learned and would never have imagined that they were true. For instance, I never knew that an owl could hear so well, that it could map an environment just by the sounds in it. I also did not know that owls mated for life, and that when a mate dies, they find it so hard to live after. This fact makes me wonder just how other animals may life that humans have not observed yet.
This book taught me so much about owls; I will never be able to look at an owl in the same ignorant way again. I never knew there were so many differences between individual species of owls. There are so many things that I learned that I could not completely list all of them. One fact that I found the most amusing was that the Barn Owl only lays eggs when there is enough food to support the baby. This is something humans should try. Almost all of the facts presented in this story were new to me. I never knew that owls could make different facial expressions, change tone and pitch in voice to communicate their emotions, or fly completely silent. All of these facts are interesting and amazing.
This book taught me how owls live, the way they think, and why they do some of the things they do. Stacey OBrien learned it, and now she is teaching everyone who reads this book “The way of the owl.”
