Acer Startup Story:
Stan Shih started off with a small company named MultiTech in 1976 at Hsinchu City, Taiwan with assistance from his wife and 3 of this friends. It was started with 25,000$ in investment and with just 11 employees. Main aim of this company was to provide engineering support, product design advice to local campanies, offer technical training and to publish journals.
The Basement:
Shih had a unique way of importance. The priority was something unique, Customers first followed by employees and shareholders. He wanted the employees to learn and evolve all the time. He wanted to create the company in such a way that the employees should always be thrived to learn.
Stan Shih Strategy:
Shih changed course dramatically. He spun off the contract manufacturing division into a separate company, now known as Wistron. And he dismantled much of the rest of Acers empire, which included operations in consumer electronics, semiconductor design, liquid-crystal displays, and other products only tangentially related to Acers core PC business. Finally, he put a renewed emphasis on innovative design. I wouldn’t say promoting the new microprocessor technology as a strategy but I would say it as a mission for the MultiTech.
Scale Rating:
Shih had a unique way of strategy. Instead of working in a big company, head a small company. That’s what Shih told his employees. Each employee was a shareholder in the company in any way. This is what a good leader will do and this will make the young engineers to join Acer. When expanding as a global company, to globalize, his way was very simple, first localize. Get the resources and talent from local and we shall integrate them to our parent company. The vision and goal
