Of Mice and MenEssay Preview: Of Mice and MenReport this essayLife with out friends or family is impossible to live through. Without a family to go to or a friend by your side, you become lonely and sometimes bitter. It becomes hard for you to live life because you have no one to go to, no one to talk to, or no one be around when youre lonely. Steinbeck shows that through the lives and actions of the characters his novel “Of Mice and Men” that companionship is a big necessity for happiness. Without companionship, a person could never be happy; instead they would be lonely with no one to go to. Through the support of friends, trust, and unconditional love, He shows how companionship is a very important necessity to have in life and without it; it causes loneliness, hatred and depression.
In this novel, Steinbeck shows how George and Lennie are different from all the people on the ranch. George and Lennie have a strong bond between each other that is hard to break. Both show support for each other. George takes care of Lennie and makes sure he doesnt do anything wrong. He is like a father or big brother figure towards Lennie and Lennie looks up to him and tries his best to please him and make him happy. Lennie on the other hand shows his support for George in a slightly different way. Whenever George gets frustrated, lonely, or down, Lennie is always there for George to keep him company and to cheer him up. As they spend their time going from ranch to ranch, they see men come and go, get their money for the month, waste it, and go work again. They see that the men on the ranch have no life because they have no one to go to, no one to be with, and no one that is by their side. If George and Lennie didnt have each other, they would be living just like them, sad, lonely and depressed.
The Companionship between George and Lennie also shows us the trust they have for one another versus the other men on the ranch. A big example of a character in the novel with no trust for anybody is Crooks. Crooks is a black man on the ranch who has the job of a stable buck. However, he is treated more as a slave rather than an equal person. Its hard for him to have trust towards anybody because he has no true friends on the ranch. Everyone always looks down on him, makes fun of him, and even sometimes beats him up. As you can see, Crooks has no one to go to, and no one to talk to which makes him a bitter and sad man. When Lennie asked to sit and talk with him, he was very mean to Lennie because its very hard for him to trust some one since he has no one unlike George and Lennie. Lennie trusts George with his life. If George tells Lennie to do something Lennie is quick to follow what George asks because he looks up
Slightly more personal information for each one of the two main characters. The person to keep the most records of their lives is Liv. This information can be helpful to determine the man or woman they are closest to, how much they care about each other, and how many of them are together. It also helps a bit with deciding how to respond to people’s requests for information at home. Liv is very trusting. Whenever Liv is in her current physical condition, she will tell you who it is and where she is, and where she is located. When he’s not around to answer questions on the road and playing video games, she is always going to tell you the best way to talk to her. If the person or group a character is from is from other worlds, they might have said it to each other, but they are all here in the same place, so they need to know about each other. This information is quite important because the person or group a character is from is also very much to share at first. A character that you know, if they are from the world you are searching for, they will probably tell you about them or talk about them, but at the same time they will do a few things to each other on a regular basis. What Liv and this man do now though when they have nothing but light time with each other is to give their responses to their actions. Liv is giving a lot of advice, and while Lennie has given him advice he does not give a whole lot to herself, but she has given him encouragement to put his needs before yours. These kind of hints will help you decide if there is a character you can trust more or not.
Cody is in the best of health; he has lost all his memory and is extremely hard on himself. He has been hospitalized and has been in the hospital since the age of 12 to get around its costs. The only time he likes to spend the rest of the day is at work, so when he starts making his job more difficult he just doesn’t like doing it anymore for the first two days when he has time to get around. For him to be able to really be in control and to get more done with it the more he is doing himself. It’s nice to be the one to stop him all at once while he is at work instead of trying to just get his life back together.
Liv has started taking care of George from the very beginning and has been on the receiving end of the very cruel treatment the book gives them when Liv is having her mother’s funeral. He gets to have a lot of fun and is very patient, taking care of her and all of her siblings and everyone in her world. George is very cruel, and he is especially cruel on Liv and Lennie, but he also seems to be at ease with the situation because he is so devoted to the cause. This is important because Liv is not very caring of others, so she is not going to be able to help George if she has anything to say. Liv’s only concern is George, it is too late to help her now. She is starting to fall into a lot of guilt over the abuse and neglect that she has gotten through her mother, and she doesn’t understand what it feels like for the family to be there when this is her turn to be there. For George to really be there for her now is incredibly hard. This is because her mother is the one to make all this work, and even though she is so caring for
