The essay I have chosen is “Why We Crave Horror Movies”. This specific essay is a cause and effect essay. This essay in my opinion should be described as a cause essay rather than a cause and effect essay. Stephen King is describing why Horror Movies are being craved and if he answered the question of what happens after watching a horror movie this would make it both a cause and effect essay. Stephen King is answering the question throughout the essay and proving to the reader with reasons why he believes this. For example, Stephen King says “Why? Some of the reasons are simple and obvious. To show that we can, that we are not afraid, that we can ride this rollercoaster.” Here we can see that Stephen is telling the reader that watching horror movies will prove to use that we are brave enough to handle the fears of horror. King provides the reader with many other reasons which answers the question and signals the reader that this is a cause essay.
The thesis can be found in this essay but isnt clearly stated. Many points have been explained by Stephen King but somewhat difficult to find the central idea the writer wants to communicate to the reader in this essay. It was implied throughout the essay but given to the reader at the end. The thesis in my opinion was that individuals need to feed themselves with with small portions of demonic, bloody, violence, found in horror movies to keep them sane. This is how individuals let out their emotions and their cravings by watching horror movies. The closest thesis that can be found explaining this is in the conclusion. Stephen King says “ Why bother? Because it keeps them from getting out man. It keeps them down there and me up here.” Here the thesis is implied, when King says “it keeps them from getting out man.” He means the violent thing Humans want to do, our urge is recompensated by watching horror movies.
The tone of the author is cynical. This essay is based
