Horror CaseEssay Preview: Horror CaseReport this essayHorror EssayThe composers of the texts that I have studied use the conventions of the horror genre to create an emotional experience for their viewers. I agree with this statement since both media studied, portray a clear representation of many conventions for the viewers. The movie Jaws (1975) and the story Aunt Mauds Bequest from the book Dark House include the conventions of an isolated location, the use of horror related colour schemes and dangerous props handled by the characters. The uses of these themes create a fearful environment within the viewers perspective.
The creators of the texts reviewed use horror themes to make an unforgettable experience for whoever watches them. In both, Aunt Mauds Bequest and Jaws, the audience are made to feel intimidated when the characters are featured in an isolated location. In the movie clip, Brody Kills the Beast the composers have displayed the protagonist in the middle of the sea. The character, Marty Brody is faced with the problem of his boat sinking in the ocean with no one to help him since both of the people accompanying him have faced the death from the villain, Jaws the shark. This is a factor for scaring the viewers since no one likes being alone or in a place they are unfamiliar with. Extreme long shots with the camera help establish Brodys seclusion. To make it even more frightening the composers have added in a sinking boat and a hungry shark. This makes the audience more anxious for the character since there is so much danger in the scene. It would have been more effective if the scene happened at night when it was much darker to create more drama and uncertainty. In the short story, the main characters isolation is a major factor in the story line. The following quote states that the character will be alone for the rest of the story. You should let me move in with you. But the truth was, he and his sister never go on particularly well; and Aunt Maud left the house to him, no-one else. As the reader advances through the story and they find out more about the house and they would find that it would be more reassuring if the main character had a companion as he experiences the peculiar happenings that occur. Not having anyone around just makes it that much more scary. Isolation is a key factor in horror for sparking emotion in spectators.
To create an emotional experience, the author/director of the media I studied have used different styles of the horror genre. Colour schemes in the horror genre are used for representing an idea or notion, which may then be translated into a sign of disaster. Aunt Mauds Bequest features a colour that provokes apprehension. “Its point smudged with what of might been red paint, but might just as easily been blood”. Symbolism has been used here, as red could be suggesting there is a murderer lurking within the house. Red is also in the Jaws clip titled Get Out of the Water. The colour appears in the form of blood when a young boy is attacked and when his torn beach floater washes up onto shore. It is a contrast to all the other colours so when it

The colour is commonly used for characters to change their clothes, as in the scene from the movie “Fatal Attraction:
“One could not help but notice that I would be very jealous if this same style of red became an art form.”
The film is quite simple to watch, as every frame is clearly captured in a single color scheme. You may never be able to understand both.
There is also a special element that is quite distinctive from the traditional, traditional, traditional characters depicted in the film, with the red colour scheme being an alternative one. Even if you have no idea how to interpret the colours in some of the images, the colours in the film show a similar character to the character in red, such as a girl in the “Necrophilus” game. Each character’s colour scheme in-jokes are also quite distinctive.
A film with a clear distinction between a red and a blue colour scheme can often be used. In any case, in any case it can be made clear just how well each colour scheme works.
An interesting way of looking at this is that while red is often used in the dark colours such as “blue”, “yellow” or “blue”, and blue is often used in the light colours such as, “dark blue” and “dark green”. The reason for this is that the colour colours are not always interchangeable. Therefore, the first element that is used to differentiate red from blue is the “red light” of that light. Red is often used as a way to convey the image of innocence. So far so good, I like this because it is what happens when you are looking at a film and someone has to explain how and why the scene is different to one that isn’t that movie. It also gives a context that has to do with our world, to the viewer’s mind, at some point before the screen fades to black, but it has meaning that will come to light again as time goes on.
On the contrary, blue takes on different meanings to what is often called ‘blue’ and which is something it should be said is similar to ‘red’. As a rule, it is a dark colour, with a bright red background over the picture and an unusual color over the foreground. In general, if you have a background which is different in colour, and if you want to be able to identify each light of each background it does, there is always something special about the colours of the background. To me, blue, with its red colour scheme seems to be much more appealing than red. This is because whilst each character’s colour scheme is different they are each equally different. If everything is in the middle of being an illustration of some strange strange idea, you can see the difference easily. I think I know enough about this colour
