Murder Mysteries a Story of Betrayal
The story-within-a-story, told by a homeless man to a visiting Englishman in L.A., tells of the first murder ever: An Angel killed in “The Shining City”; the homeless storyteller is in reality the Angel Raguel, the vengeance of “The Name” (God). Raguel becomes, in effect, the first Detective, attempting to discover a motive that can lead to bringing the killer to justice.

“The Dark” represents bad and evil. The Dark is on the outskirts of the Silver city. That is where the body of Carasel, the dead angel, was found. When the body was first discovered it was almost dark, but now and again a light would flicker inside it. To me that represented that the angel still had something living inside of it. Soon enough, all luminescence had disappeared from the body.

Further on in the story when Raguel was trying to find Carasels killer, he asked Lucifer what he was doing in the city before the body was found. At first Lucifer had not told all of the truth and said that he was just walking. Finally, he had mentioned that he was walking in the Dark. He said that he has been walking in the Dark for some time. Lucifer had continued saying that he hears voices in the Dark. He said that the voices promise him things, ask him questions, and also whisper and plead. Lucifer had lied about his whereabouts at first because he is the only angel that walks in the Dark.

Zephkieh had created the Dark and the voices in the Dark, so he has caused all of the violence to occur. The Darkness is very important in the story because it is the silent killer. My feelings are that in the end the voices in the Dark have caused all the killings.

The Angel Lucifer has been described as perfect. “His wings were imposing, his plumage perfect. He had skin the color of sea mist, and curly silver hair, and these wonderful gray eyes…Drops of water fell like diamonds from the Angel Lucifers perfect fingers” Lucifer
