Los Medanos College has a lot of resources to help students fulfill their educational goals. The Transfer Center, The Career Center, and The Student Life Office are very essential for students who want to further their education and to build a social life on and off the college campus, and help students move toward their long term career goals.
The Transfer Center works with students to help create transfer strategies and to develop an approach to the transfer process. Students can transfer to a four-year college or university after completing at least 60 semester transferable units. Universities have lower-division general education and major requirements which can be fulfilled at LMC prior to transferring. Those students eligible for admission from high school may apply to transfer before junior status. There are workshops all throughout the fall and spring semesters to help students become knowledgeable of how to transfer; theyre special programs, which could be beneficial for students that are looking forward to transferring to a 4 year University.
The Career Center offers a variety of resources to help you in identifying your interests, personality preferences, skills, values, decision making process, and learning styles. There are a variety of resources available in the Career Center to help you with making the connection of your results to your academic and career goals. The Career Center also is a service to Los Medanos students that are undecided about their majors, looking for work on and off campus and need a career assessment. The Career Center provides help with career exploration, Resume writing, Interviewing skills, and Professional development. This is an excellent department to use if you are new to the school struggling with indentifying a major or career path.
The last, Department is The Student Life Office; this is a very useful office for students that are looking to fit in with the college environment and way of life. The Student Life office is designed and staffed to help students achieve their goals as leaders in their groups and communities. Student leaders, club officers, and advisors are invited and encouraged to use the office students utilize the office for grade appeals, computers, free copy machines and more. The Student Life Office also offers independent and group workshops, such as field trips, and leadership academies. These programs are made available for all students through out all semesters. -Demetria Lawrence, Head Coordinator of The Student Life Office, said, “Education is a long process; all you have to do is stay on course toward your goals in life”.
