Having a private practice may be the best ting that a pediatrician can do, but it is very expensive to set up a private practice and it may take years to plan. Many pediatricians prefer to work in a hospital and have their own little room to check on children. The room the doctor works in may be different according to how much money the hospital has to give to each doctor. Trying to check on young children can be very scary, so in an effort to not scare little children many pediatricians “make an effort to use colors and special decorative effects which can be appealing to the childrens eyes..”(Occupational Guidance). Many pediatricians might have a day when they must save an infant from dying of a disease or by a common accident. This can be very frustrating to a pediatrician, because the infants life is in his hands, thus meaning that pediatricians, “…must b in good health and have the mental stamina to work for long irregular hours and expects the unexpected” (Paul).
When looking for a job I must look at how my future job is going to do in later years. Will I have place to work at? Or will I have somewhere to practice? All these questions come in mind when Im looking at the my jobs outlook for the future. A career such as pediatrics is never going to run out jobs, for children are always in need of help and are always in danger. The same is sad about medicine. There are new medical advances that will make the field of pediatrics much, much bigger than it already is. The rise of hiring pediatricians is going to go slow, but will increase more than any other profession in the world. In many cases “the field of pediatrics is expected to grow faster than average into the 21st Century, due, in part to the expansion of the health care industry..”(Occupational Guidance).
Even though there are going to be many doctors working in big places like New York and Los Angeles, there is going to be places like Woodland that are going to need some type of child care. Not only will there new breakthroughs in medicine, but the “…success of organ transplants and in the treatment of leukemia and other diseases is creating broader fields of opportunity for pediatricians as well as their patients”(Chronicle Guidance Publications).
Even before I start to go to college and study medicine, there are many different things that I can do to get a head start. Having a strong mind and having to work very closely with children and patients is a great deal of stress for an intern or a new student, thus it is recommended that a person start to take classes in how to work in a stress filled situation. Individuals must be “…patient, persistent and straight on into what they are learning and what they want to learn”(Occupational Guidance). Students can prepare by studying English, science, social science, history and mathematics such as Algebra 2 and Calculus. Besides studying from the above, it is also recommended that students take a foreign language and three courses in physics, biology and chemistry. Being in science clubs and studying in science related classes give students opportunities to explore many different areas of medicine and it gives them a greater understanding in hot to work with other students. Helping out and “volunteering for activities in hospitals or institutions also help students learn to deal with others while providing the chance to see many aspects
