Bleachers
By: John Grisham
This book is about two guys that meet up at their high school after 20 years. They began talking about old times and they remembered the old coach that they use to both love. I believe that teaching is in a lot more than just the profession. I think that it is teaching someone something that they dont know. I think that coaches are great example of someone that can be a teaching without having a degree The subject of this book is appreciating the little things in life and never regretting the relationships you have with people. I think that this book is full of this the boys began appreciating their coach and their relationship after they realize how hard it was to be without it. When they meet again they realize how much that they missed each other and how much they appreciate the coach that they had always treated so badly. This book is both chronological and analytical. It is chronological because the boys go back on the times that they use to have together remembering specific dates and specific games that changed there outlook on their coach. It is also analytical because they recall things that they did and analyze them to see what they could have done differently.
The point of view is second person it is told by the author in reference to Neely, one of the boys. The book is completely factual. It is told from a true story with real people and real problems. I think that the theorizing or fact building is mostly cultural. I believe this because the boys come from a town where all if not almost all of the kids play football. When they were born boys it was almost a given that they were going to grow up playing football. I believe that the way that the book organizes the information gives the book good flow and believability. In the end the coach that everyone had loved so much dies. The boys that came back were glad that they got to spend some time with their beloved coach before he passed away.
I think that this book allowed me to believe even more that there is a lot of different ways that you can be a teacher and make a difference is someones life. I also believe that you should appreciate you teachers cause you never know when someone will not be there anymore. Teaching is a lot more that the money it is the fact that you are helping someone and making a difference in there lives.
