It Went Both Ways
It was a time when all had fun, but Dad seemed distant. They never knew the sacrifice that Dad had made. He had given us the best time that we would ever remember, but it had a price. The cost was

something that some men are willing to pay. The journey back home told us what sacrifices had been made.
While the family had a great time that summer month of June, Dad did not have that special time that he wanted us to have. He had too much on his mind, too much to ever let us know about what he really wanted. You see, Dad was getting tired of the same routine at home. He wanted to start enjoying life, but how could he, when all he did was work and work every day of the week. Summer was the only time that he ever took off. This was his gift to his children.

Work was something that he no longer wanted to even think about. What he really wanted was to enjoy the rest of his life. For that, he had to retire. He knew that it was within his reach, but the kids were still in school, and moving to Florida was not something that his wife wanted to even discuss.
