Empire Globe Case
Part I:
As Situation III ends,
Susan Bond needs to make a decision about her next course of action. What do you see as her options?
I believe Susan bond has two options, first is to ignore the ethical implications at Empire Globe Corporation and proceed with further negotiations with Power authority while helping Treadstone maximizing profits. And the second is to reveal the truth about the false alarm by Treadstone about inefficiency in the Feldport operations to Feldportians.
From an ethical standpoint, indicate what you would do if you were in her situation. Be as specific as possible.
If I was in Susans position, at this point when I know Treadstone and James are not going to reveal truth to all the stakeholders for sure, I will file a complaint about the manipulated advancements by Treadstone to the public of Fled port and the authorities. Treadstone was playing under the law and Feldportians were willing to make any special arrangements to attract Empire globe back to the Feldport, therefore he might have been successful in his plans, however for me taking advantage of someone while showing a miser image is ethically incorrect and has to be escalated to party adversely affected, immediately.
Having provided your plan of action, you are welcome to challenge decisions made earlier by Susan.
So far, I believe Susan is on right track; in this case her personal belief about being reasonable to all the stakeholders is the foundation of her ethical beliefs. I further believe she already had gone overboard and was able to negotiate 4 objectives out of 5 from city officials and local businesses of Feldport. Her due diligence was lacking initially, but later in the case when she confronts with her boss about the lies he been telling, she sounds like a person with integrity. From Lewis, (1985, p. 381); definition of ethics, her actions could be justified where he states, “Business ethics is rules, standards, codes or principles which provide guidelines for morally right behavior and truthfulness in specific situations”. Hence, I hope she makes a right decision.
As a basis for your recommendations, apply the ethical concepts discussed in class, readings, and the book.
According to Hosmer Chapter -1; “The nature of moral problems in management” while evaluating the ethical duties to enable business people to apply ethical principles, he suggested that 8 most cited principles be used. Out of those Personal virtues ethics could be related to Treadstones conduct which is the application of self-interest, especially in the short term; it may not result in the fair and courteous treatment of others. The moral decisions made are not necessarily based on being kind and
