Tata Motors started in the year 1945 at Jamshedpur manufacturing steam locomotives. The company entered into collaboration with Mercedes Benz to manufacture Medium commercial vehicles from the Kits procured from them. The collaboration ended in 1969 by when Tata Motors had acquired skills in designing and developing commercial vehicles on its own. The company embarked on a self-sufficiency drive and evolved into a vertically integrated commercial vehicles manufacturing unit with its own captive Forge Shop, Foundry, and Machine Building facilities. Tata Motors expanded its operations to Pune (1970s), Lucknow (1990s), Dharwad (1990s), Pantnagar (2000), and Sanand, with a product range in the commercial vehicles from 1Ton to 49Ton and passenger cars and Utility vehicles, to cater to the domestic and international markets. Tata Motors have acquired Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company, Korea, Hispano Carrocera, Spain, and Jaguar Land Rover, UK among others to make global presence as a part of International Growth plan. Its network of sales, service and spares through dealerships, authorised service stations and spares distributors with guidance from regional and area offices (For Domestic & International Business) to support customers in their operational requirements. TATA Motors has two business units – one for Passenger Cars (PCBU) and the other for Commercial Vehicles (CVBU). The Commercial Vehicle Business Unit (CVBU) has four Lines of Business – Medium & Heavy Commercial vehicles (M & HCV) Trucks, Buses, Small & Light Commercial vehicles (LCVs) and Non Vehicle Business (NVB) which includes spare parts & vehicle aggregates, and AMC. Jamshedpur Plant is the mother plant of this multi-location global company – TATA Motors. Jamshedpur plant engaged in manufacturing medium and heavy range of commercial vehicles. This application focuses on this Jamshedpur Plant and its associated functions like sales, marketing, service, etc. In M&HCV segment, Tata Motors have retained leadership position, currently at 64.3%, in the domestic market for last five decades and also have gradually gained a respectable global standing. Jamshedpur plant consists of four manufacturing factories – Truck Factory, Engine Factory, Cab & Cowl Factories, and the Prima Factory. The support functions like planning, design, materials, and quality assurance operate centrally for the manufacturing factories. The divestments in March 2000 hived off the Axle and Transmission plants into independent subsidiaries viz. Heavy Vehicles Axles Limited (HVAL) and Heavy Vehicle Transmission Limited (HVTL) respectively, and the IT arm to Tata Technologies Limited (TTL). In Truck factory, have two lines to assemble medium and heavy commercial vehicles. Prima factory, for manufacturing of the high end new generation vehicles, is equipped with state-of-art facilities. Major aggregates like Engine, cab, axles and transmissions are sourced through subsidiaries
