A Teacher’s Challenge
When one chooses to become a teacher, he or she thinks it is the most rewarding career ever sought. It seems exciting and stress free when one is on the outside looking in. It is thought, a teacher can not ask for a more fulfilling job where holidays are at least every month. This career seems perfect because it appears to be stress less. However, everything that seems glamorous is not. Although there are many challenges a teacher faces, the one that seems to come center stage is accommodating extremely low-functioning students in a regular classroom setting.
As a teacher, accommodating extremely low-functioning student in a regular classroom setting seems to become more of a challenge everyday. There is too much that is needed to focus solely on low-functioning students in a regular classroom. Today’s teachers do not have what it takes to meet the needs of these students. Therefore, the challenge becomes more of a struggle everyday. Teachers want to be effective and help all students to the best of their ability. However, when there is not enough self to focus on six extremely low-functioning students, someone gets left behind. Both the low-functioning students and the regular students are not getting the focus that is needed to take their minds to the next level of learning.
Reaching most students intellectually is the primary goal of a teacher. When a teacher takes on the role of making sure students learn what is being taught, it becomes more of a challenge when half of the class is not where they need to be intellectually.
