1 SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS
BNS TBA Projects is a construction and infrastructure services project management
company. The company is a multi disciplinary property and infrastructure services and
investment group which was formed in 2003.BNS TBA Projects offers a comprehensive
project management approach that encompasses activities from project initiation; planning;
execution and control; to completion and commissioning and employs about 60 permanent
staff.
BNS TBA then embarked on an aggressive expansion thrust which resulted in an increase in
the number of commissions they had to undertake.
The following situations have arisen as a result of this aggressive expansion by BNS TBA;
BNS TBA have recruited a small number of employees on a temporary basis as a stop
gap measure to meet the growing workload and this has caused friction between the
permanent and temporary employees based around the issues of remuneration (packages
and benefits).
Most of the employees are now discontent and are considering leaving due to the fact
that the expansion policy has focussed on growing the business through acquisition of more
contracts and neglected to expand the staff compliment to spread the work evenly although
there has been employment of temporary employees;
Despite the increase in the commissions and workload, salaries have not been reviewed
for a year now in direct contravention of one of the clauses in our Human Resources Policy
and as such there now exists a very dissatisfied team.
Recently, senior management decided to take the whole staff compliment of the Harare
office for a weekend of team building at a place in Victoria Falls that offers several activities
that are meant to foster team effort to ensure successful completion. The duration of the
team building excursion was from a Friday mid morning to Sunday late evening. It was
believed that this team building weekend would help erode the relational barriers that had
been set up in the office environment which had resulted in cliques being formed. The
formation of cliques was resulting in substandard work as members within teams were not
contributing
