Introduction
I took off on the word ‘go’ and always focused on the future. Things weren’t easy for me as I come from a different country and culture. All I knew was that it was a simulated business situation where all groups competed against each other. It all sounded exciting but at the same time, very confusing. I had to apply all the knowledge I gained in the past 2 years to work well through the simulation. I was ready for a challenge.
This report gives a picture of my behaviour, feelings, and attitude towards working in a team and the experience I have obtained throughout the summer program. Furthermore this report reveals my collaboration, contribution and goes as far as measuring my strengths and weaknesses. It finally brings an end by revealing where I started at and where I’m finishing, as a team member and individual
My collaboration
Collaboration is a recursive process where two or more people or organizations work together toward an intersection of common goals. Relating collaboration to this unit, it is all about group effort and team work. The team turned up to be well diversified; we were all from different culture, degree and different country .This gives an extra advantage as different ideas can arise. However, this could be a high area of conflict. Every team member could have dissimilar ways of assessing the situation and handle it but only one decision can be taken. This was of great concern to me throughout the simulation.
Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. Up till now, this was just a simple sentence to me. I understood its actual meaning as I advanced through the Unit. When I was allocated to my group, I was nervous that I would be the only one who had inadequate knowledge about the unit; however we were all in the same situation fighting for the same goal which was to be the best. I’ve been lucky to have worked in many group assignments and presentations throughout my course at Curtin which has increased my confidence, has made me more effective in communication with people from different cultures and has enhanced my leadership quality.
Fortunately, we had two practice rounds which helped me get a preview of the actual game and enabled me to make use of various strategies and plans for the actual decision-making. As an accounting and finance major student, my main focus was going to predict various figures for examples sales and production.
All decisions made were purely based on improving the company’s profitability with the approval of the team. As a fact, for all the poor decisions made, there was not one in particular to be blamed.
