Teen Pregnancy and Prenatal Care
Pregnant teenagers are not always able to get the needed prenatal care. There are many different reasons why this happens. Family life is in my opinion the number one factor. Many people think it is just unknowledgeable young people who just want to have sex. This paper will discuss the top reasons of pregnant teens not getting the much needed prenatal care.
The first way teenager who are pregnant may try to avoid prenatal care is by not having the support of their family. The teenagers can be kicked out of their home for getting pregnant. Parents of the teen may tell the teen they need to figure it out on their own. Parents can be tough at the wrong times during life, but some may simply not have the resources themselves. A personal experience for me was getting kicked out for being pregnant. I made a lot of bad choices while being pregnant simply because I did not know where to turn for the help I needed.
The second way prenatal care may not be available to a teenage who is pregnant could be due to the availability of health insurance. For a teenage girl whose parents have kicked out, she may not have resources available to gain health insurance or the knowledge to know where to turn to gain the resources.
The third way being a pregnant teen trying to obtain prenatal care may not happen is getting to doctor appointments. This may be an issue for teenagers who do not have a license or money for a ride to go to the doctor appointments. A teenager with no support can hinder any situation. During my second pregnancy, I worked two jobs and did not have the time to get to a doctor. For me, work was more important that a doctor visit.
In conclusion, it is not easy for all pregnant teens to receive the proper prenatal care that is expected and needed while pregnant. Many factor come into play during teenage pregnancy. There are avenues available to teen girls who are pregnant; however, finding those avenues to travel may be difficult for young people with no support. Educating teens as well as their parents is a step in the right direction.
