Kurt Cobain
Kurt Cobain
Kurt Cobain was born on February 20, 1967 and spent his childhood growing up in the town of Aberdeen, Washington. Cobain was said to be a normal happy kid and enjoyed music very much. But that all changed when he was about 8 years old. His parents had got a divorced in 1975, and this apparently had a major impact on his life. As Cobain grew older he began to become withdrawn and resentful. This caused even more problems at home and he started being shuffled around between his mom, dad, and relatives. During his teenage years Cobain found escape by going to punk rock shows in Seattle. Many of the bands he saw there had a great influence on his music career.
At the age of 14 Cobain received his first guitar from his uncle. He went on to try and start up bands with friends, but none of them really had any talent. When in high school Cobain met Novoslic, who was also a big fan of punk rock. It took a lot of convincing, but finally Novoslic agreed to start a band with Cobain. After rotating through a bunch of drummers they found Chad Channing. And as Nirvana they recorded their first album Bleach in 1989. But Cobain was not happy with Channings style and they eventually ended up with Dave Grohl. They then released their album, Nevermind, which led the band to their greatest success.
Nirvanas sound was unlike anything that was out at the time they released Nevermind. They had an ideology of indie rock, melodies of pop, and they merged it all together with a heavy metal grind. They were able to take all the sounds of their favorite bands and put them all into one. What they ended up with was a sound that was that was fiery and melodic. Their songs can go from soft lyrics to jamming load and screaming lyrics all in one song. And they were able to do it in such a way that it didn’t sound like just a bunch of sounds jumbled together, it is nice and smooth and doesn’t miss a beat.
Cobain had many influences when it came to his own music, and usually he would put them before his own music. He was always telling reporters/interviewers about the importance of the bands that influenced him and about how much they meant to him. Some of his influences were The Vaselines, The Melvins, Daniel Johnston, The Meat Puppets, The Wipers, and The Raincoats. But perhaps one of the biggest influences of Cobain was The Beatles. Cobain had called John Lennon his idol in
